Cell Phone Banking Options Become more Popular

There is a story on Newsday.com via the Los Angeles Times that talks about how popular banking by cell phone is becoming. Apparently 8 out of 10 major banks offer mobile banking via cell phone.

The article mentions accessing your account by "typing away" on your cell phone so I assume they mean this a text messaging related or mobile web service. It isn't really clear.

Personally I use a small local bank and have been accessing my account via phone for 5-6 years. I call the phone number, enter my account and PIN. Then I can check balances, make transfers or loan payments, and other banking. Of course this all can be done on any phone- landline home phone, cell phone, whatever has dial tone.

Accordingly, Wells Fargo is mentioned as allow banking via smartphone web browser or text.

This is yet another service you can use with your cell phone plan.
